maybe I should not call her #6- she does have a name :-)
i thought we had the whole "energy" level taken care of - play ball for a half hour, walk for about a half hour, and all should be good....yes??
she played for about a half hour with Tasha -- but -- she came in and walked around the house crying - staring out the window, roaming around like a lost puppy dog....which I suppose to some extent she is.
since it wasn't raining, and i needed something in town, i decided to take a walk to town - of course with Izzy and I didn't dare leave my dog home - so Dazzle came along.
I worried about what i would do when i got to town - like - do i tie them up some place, and what happens if they don't stay there or if they keep barking?
thankfully Brian came home in time to go with us.
Izzy does NOT like walking on the road, he tail was about as far as any tail can get between a dogs legs without being intraverted inside of her body. poor thing...
the walk was decent, mabye twenty minutes one way - so she had a good fourty minute walk, and a half hour play time....no problem right?
no, we got home, we all get settled in - get dinner on the table, and the entire time Izzy is pacing back and fourth - crying again.
i was really getting to be very nervous, Brian finally said that perhaps she did need to go potty - even though she had recently, but it wouldn't hurt to try. So - out we went again - she went out took care of buisness, we took another short little walk (her, dazzle and myself) and back into the house we went.
~~~~Izzy slept the entire night - she completely passed out on the couch. So....tonight....play, walk, play, potty and maybe she will be set to go?
we are not used to having a dog that "needs" attention. Dazzle just chills with us. She will lay on the couch with the kids while they watch tv, or sit in the office if i am on the computer, or even when i am sewing she is laying under my feet - that is what kind of dog she is....chill.
Izzy on the other hand, you can't get her to simmer down for more than five minutes - but AGAIN - she hasn't been with us that long ------ and we have no idea what her life was like before she came to live with us, so....for now....we will be what Izzy needs most -- a warm, safe, fun house to be at until she can find her forever home. We will do some playing - and walking - and some resting.
I think she will be with us for a while - with her mange - i doubt anyone will want her - people are funny that way. We will see on Saturday when we have the thing at WFC. She is a cute dog, super loveable....but she needs a huge house, five acres, and someone that is active - not a bunch of ppl who play xbox/watch tv/watch movies/play on the computer/sew or scrapbook....of course maybe eventually she will need to take her engergy down a little? or maybe dogs like her just don't? not sure - but ....for now...she is our Izzy, and we will do our best to be there for her.
Foster Dog #6
I thougth this might be a good venue for me to cataloug our foster dogs - since my memory is beginning to fade as the days go by. I told Tasha that she needed to keep track of our fosters, so that she could write a paper or something when she gets to high school next year - but mom knows nothing!!
On to the foster dog....start with our newest...
Izzy, our sixth foster dog arrived yesterday afternoon.
She's cute - a mix of pit-bull/boxer. Poor thing has mange - from some sort of allergy on her skin, so currently she has no hair - not much anyhow....patches here and there. when her hair does grow back she will be a very pretty girl. For now, she needs special baths, special medicine, and we need to be careful where she goes - pollen might be one of the triggers.
Not sure of her "story" yet, she was an emergency placement.
Very mellow, likes to play fetch in the house with a tennis ball, she will gobble up a bone in a flash, hasn't seemed to get into trouble as of yet. No counter surfing, no garbage turning, no biting of the cats or Dazzle....the only "concern" is that she isn't very complient when she is on her leash for a walk.
She is super strong - holy cows, that girl can pull. A pull toy or a leash she is on it and pulling, she is so strong it scares me a little.
She climbs up onto the couch - which we do not mind, but they discourage that at the fostering center because you never know where they will go after our house. She climbed right up onto Brian's lap last night, funniest thing EVER - she is a big dog - almost lab size - she is certainly NOT a lap dog, she streached from Brian's lap over to mine, and put his head on me and looked at me like "hey, this is kind of cool, hope you don't mind me taking over!"
We nicely put her on the other couch and encouraged her to enjoy that spot - not draped over a human!
She did pretty good during dinner, she didn't beg - or whine, but she did wander around a bit, but that is to be expected it was a new place!
She went right into her kennel last night, slept just fine in there, went out this morning for her potty and then back into her kennel.
Okay, tomorrow or this afternoon I will blog about Jack - our 5th foster dog - Bosten Terrier - cute...funny, quarky and silly!!
